What was she thinking?? I mean, this is pathetic.
Laura Bush: "President Bush is a great leader and husband—but I bet you didn't know, he is also quite the poet. Upon returning home last night from my long trip, I found a lovely poem waiting for me. Normally, I wouldn't share something so personal, but since we're celebrating great writers, I can't resist.
Dear Laura,
Roses are red, violets are blue, oh my lump in the bed, how I've missed you.
Roses are redder, bluer am I, seeing you kissed by that charming French guy.
The dogs and the cat they miss you too, Barney's still mad you dropped him, he ate your shoe.
The distance my dear has been such a barrier, next time you want an adventure, just land on a carrier.
I'm happy to be the inspiration behind this poem."
Question: Now, who could have written that poem, huh? I mean, what ...
Laura Bush: Well, of course, he didn't really write the poem. But a lot of people really believed that he did. That evening at the dinner, what some woman from across the table said: "You just don't know how great it is to have a husband who would write a poem for you."
—Laura Bush, remarks at the National Book Festival in Washington, Oct. 3, 2003.

What can you tell about the intelligence of the person who wrote the poem, namely the U.S. President George W. Bush :) I would say - third grade or so.. I mean, poems can say a lot about intelligence, don't you agree?

The point is he did write it, she just didn't want to accent that. Too late though. Leah, you are an intelligent person, can you suggest who other than her husband could write this? Did she write it herself maybe? And then made herself look stupid? Who else would address her clearly as his wife? Please, of course he wrote this. But hey, some people believe everything they are told, so sure, if she said he didn't write it, he most definitely didn't. Probably some secret admirer of hers wrote it (or maybe lover, aahhhaaa) ;)

When people cannot find decent criticizm in the president's actions, they begin to pick on things like personal poems he wrote to his wife. Interestingly enough, if I made a post about Kerry's poetry, the same people who are bashing Bush here would probably be telling me that I am being stupid for trying to pick on Kerry's poetry :)

II, please DO post about it then, I am curious what kind of poems Kerry can write. If they suck so bad, too, I'll most definitely agree with it. And yes, I believe this situation tells a lot about intelligence of them both - Bush and Laura. Bush writes stupid poems, and Laura is not smart enough to keep them secret. Aren't you embarassed to be analyzing this so deeply? LOL...
By the way, since you claim there is a direct relationship between poem writting and intelligence, and since you claim to be an intelligent person, how about you post some of your poetry, so you can be under the same spotlight you are giving to Bush for his poetry?
Let's see some of your work, Alex. I am sure as intelligent as you are, your poetry will be very interesting to read. So let's see it.

In fact I did post some very long time ago, unfortunately I can't remember them now. Some of the veteran forum members may recall it. Anyway, I knew someone would make this argument. But, we are not talking about my poetry, are we :) This is U.S. President we are talking about here, and he'd better not give people reasons to think he is lame (which is too late of course)

Ability to write poetry has nothing to do with ability to govern a nation. Therefore, since you are picking on a characteristic of his which is irrelevant to his ability as a preseident, you subject yourself to the same criticizm. So once again, I would like to see some personal poems you've written to your wife. We will judge these poems, and determine your real ability as a programmer based on these poems. I'm sure you'll agree that this is only fair.
(I wouldn't use this argument if you were critical of one of his policies...he is president and you are not, and you aren't supposed to be 'better' than he is as a president in order to be critical of him. But if you are going to pick on something about him which has nothing to do with his ability as a president, then you are subject to that same criticism. In the same token, if I had ever commited adultery, I would never have the right to question Clinton's actions with M. Lewinsky. I think you get the logic here...)

II, as I said, I did write some very long time ago, and I didn't keep copies. I can assure you though, hardly anyone can write anything worse than Bush's poems.
You have to understand he chose to be in this spotlight by becoming president. With power comes responsibility and public attention to every aspect of his life, which again he knows and he chose voluntarily. There is a legal term - public person. He is one and I am not. The President is judged by different criteria than ordinary people, so your logic is not applicable here, although understandable. If I criticized your poetry, for example, then you could make this argument valid - we are both on the same public level, so to say. In any case, I didn't want to analyze this deeply, as you said :) You can see I posted this in Humor section because this is plain funny. Now I have to reply to your elaborate posts about this. Don't you think you are the one taking this too seriously?

Ok....makes sense. I guess as president he is indeed subject to more scrutiny than you are. And since this is in the humor section, I can't really say much more. But I get a good feeling from this :) After all, lack of real issues leads one to pick on such things as ability of poetry writing. Kinda funny, indeed!
I remember when Clinton was president I would often find articles about him which would pick on some stupid little things...something Clinton did long ago, or something he said, etc...and though I didn't like Clinton, I also found this partisan-style bashing of him ridicilous. Just like I find it ridicilous of this Bush-bashing. Half the stuff you post, if Kerry was guilty of the same, you wouldn't post it (sad if you can't even admit this). So my point remains - when you hate someone, you'll find anything to pick on that person.
