Great movies to watch on your tube.

This time it is 'Rumble Fish' (1983)  by Francis Ford Coppola

Has anybody seen the movie? It's set in Oklahoma, OK, USA, about American-Italian dudes, but it's almost like going back in time to the Soviet Russia/Ukraine at the same time. I honestly have seen something like that happening back in my yard in Leningrad, when I was way too little to comprehend. Classic! Bravo!

Great cast: Dennis Hopper, Nicholas Cage (Coppola is his real last name, related btw) and of course Mickey Rourke.

It was a cult movie among my friends at the end of the eighties.  Great movie. . .  It's been awhile, need to put it in my queue again.

Re: Great movies to watch on your tube.

I hadn't had a chance to see this movie back in the old Soviet Union. I heard a lot people talking about Rumble Fish, and I saw a snippet of it in my friend's house. He had a 'vidik', which was a big deal then, and a bunch of us used to come to his place to watch foreign movies (I don't want to specify what most of them were :). His 'vidik' would show movies only in black and white. So when I fist rented this move here in US, I was surprised to see it in black and white … as well. There are a lot of movies made this way since the time the color was introduced. I guess it is some kind of tribute to the story telling movies, most of which were done in the old days. But in this case, this way of film making is exceptionally good and original. One of the main characters, played by Mickey Rourke, actually is color blind. While watching the movie, it takes some time to realize that the whole story comes from him, the character played Rourke. And the ending is just so great… It's in color!

I haven't seen this one, but I've read good reviews. will definitely watch it and give my opinion as soon as I can…

I guess it's off the topic, but hey, nobody is on the forum these days. How good is their service, Igor? I watch my movies only on my iMac (the latest one), and I have given up from TV and DVD player for good. Is the quality good? I would rather buy a movie and keep it in my achieves… I don't want to rent it.

I use netflix streaming.  It streams onto a 92 inch screen and looks at least dvd quality, sometimes close to HD.  I signed up with netflix streaming (it's like $9 per month) because all seasons of Dexter were available on it.

Hi II. I really, really glad to see you here on the forum… that old-timer you are :)
I've subscribed to Netflix, have given them my credit card number and else, but I don't get (as of now) what I want. And that is: buying a movie I want and have it downloaded, and keep it like forever. Maybe I am not aware of their full service… Again, I don't want to rent.

Does Netflix streaming allow you to download a movie and keep it? Might be a stupid question from me... but is it?

There are a number of ways to "keep" rented Netflix movies.

    1. You could make copies of the rental disks being sent to you in the mail. Many disks feature copy protection, but there are software titles on the web available...

    2. You could stream movies (only a limited amount of streamed movies available) and capture them via frame grabbing software.

    I hope this helps

Re: Great movies to watch on your tube.

Well, let's not get carried away with this all off the topic stuff. this topic is about the movies you like on your tube. Anyone, please feel free to drop something that you like. (Thank you Igor, I still am in getting that movie on my Mac).

The next one that I recommend is 'Blade Runner' 1982, created and directed by Ridley Scott. There is a book, written by Philip K. *** in 1968. The book is called 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?' Crap of the literature as we now know it… unless you want to challenge me :) That is one of the rare cases when the movie is greater than the book.

It is a SiFi movie about a guy in his 40s encountering robots, machines that he must destroy. He is, and he does, but something wrong goes on…. Don't want to spoil the plot since most of you haven't seen it.

Harrison Ford is in the movie. He is ok, sort off…. he doesn't impress me so much. The Oskar goes to Sean Young and Rutger Hauer. God, (with all forgiveness that You can) I am so upset that Dutch lost to Spain in the world cup.

That's from the movie… he, Rutger Hauer's character plays and says...

"I have seen the things you people wouldn't believe….
all those moments will be lost in time like…. tears… in rain… time to die"

Wow! That is Philip K. D...k. Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Dick. What a censorship... just like way back in the old Soviet Union. Way to go Kostja, way to go ... if you don't know who wrote 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?' then it's way to go.
