I have been trying to obtain the advertising business of a local spa/salon. The owner has been encouraging me to visit the spa and enjoy some of the services at a discount. Feeling that I really should do this, I finally made an appointment to have my legs waxed. My appointment was this afternoon. I decided on that particular service, of all those offered by the salon, for couple of reasons. First of all, how often does one get the chance to put personal grooming appointments on the expense report…seemed like an opportunity that shouldn’t be missed. The second reason was a little more personal. Since moving, I have been a bit paranoid about using my epilator (guys…if you ever wonder why women claim to have a higher pain threshold…an epilator is a machine that works like hundreds of tweezers plucking all at once)…the method I generally employ to ensure silky smoothness. Since I can hear my neighbor cough through the very thin walls of my new apartment, I have worried that the steady mechanical hum of the epilator might be mistaken by my neighbors as another type of small battery operated device. I arrived at my appointment and the waxing began. I lay on the table in a vulnerable position while a total stranger proceeded to pour hot wax on me and then rip it off, causing excruciating pain. I couldn’t believe that I was paying to have someone do this to me…it was rather like being tricked into entering an S&M act without establishing a safe word…tricked because I would never willingly agree to be the sub! Never again! There is a limit to what I am willing to do in the future to advance my career and the neighbors can assume anything they choose.

lol...not the type of career you are thinking...though I used to have a co-worker who could be had for cake....

for some reason women think that men like them to be hairless as those ugly exposed-skin cats. alas, all those troubles are not going to be appreciated. unless it's really a case of pathological hairiness - there is need to go through torture and expense of hair removal. many men don't mind some fluff on those legs at all. moreover, the legs tend to become prickly real soon and that's when we start experiencing some uncomfortable sensations as well. of course, women never listen to us, and keep doing it to themselves. strictly my optinion & impression.

Man have a high pian treshhold when we want to. A guy at one radio stations went thru brasilian wax (butt and balls) and wasn't complaining much... But I was wondering - why nobody invented permanent hair removal yet? Is it a comspiracy of spa salones ?

Leah, I have to say that my waxing only goes as far as I know I can't do it myself (brows, bikini, etc)...legs on the other hand...too painful, so shaving it is. KGB, there is permanent hair removal (laser), its also painful and costs a very very good amount of money. But it is worth it.

As I've mentioned before, I tend to watch TV at 3 in the morning. And I have seen plenty of 30-minute infomercials with miracle products to remove hair without pain (or regrow it, whatever may be the case). Please let me know if you'd like more information. :)

positive :)) But it takes like 5 visits an area to get it done right. You might have to do a touch up once in so many years, but many times people don't need that.

good to know that men don't really mind... I'd still be horrified to wear a skirt without smoothness though... I like those bald cats....
